The Walt Disney Company has made the decision to close its luxurious Star Wars-themed hotel and attraction in Orlando, Florida, less than two years after its grand opening.

Disney announced on Thursday that the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel and experience will be shuttered, citing business considerations.

The final voyage of the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is scheduled to take place from September 28th to September 30th, 2023. The immersive voyages offered by the Starcruiser began in March 2022, with bookings opening in October 2021.

Those who had made reservations for a stay at the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, which could cost up to $6,000 for a family of four, as reported by WDW News Today, were promised a unique experience filled with encounters with cast members, immersive role-playing games, and a culinary extravaganza set in a captivating blend of live theater and themed environments. Guests had the opportunity to meet and interact with beloved characters from the “Star Wars” movie franchise, engage in lightsaber training, and enjoy drinks in a lounge inspired by the faraway galaxies.

“Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of the most innovative projects undertaken by Walt Disney and has garnered praise from our guests, as well as recognition for its groundbreaking approach to immersive entertainment,” stated a spokesperson from The Walt Disney Company. “This premium boutique experience, with its 100-room scale, allowed us to explore new concepts and ideas. As we prepare for the final voyage, we will leverage the knowledge gained to create future experiences that can cater to a wider audience of our guests and fans.”

The spokesperson emphasized the achievement of the Starcruiser team in developing “real” lightsabers more than four decades after the premiere of the first “Star Wars” film. They also highlighted the creation of a cohesive environment where both guests and cast members could fully immerse themselves in the story and engage in play.

“We express our immense pride for all the Cast Members and Imagineers who brought Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to life. We eagerly anticipate providing exceptional experiences to our guests during the remaining voyages in the upcoming months,” the company conveyed on its website. “We extend our gratitude to our guests and fans for making this experience truly special.”

The booking system for future voyages is currently unavailable, and Disney will be reaching out to individuals who had made reservations for voyages on or after September 30 to discuss options and make necessary adjustments.
